How the M50 Toll Works

The M50 toll is a barrier-free, electronic tolling system located on the M50 motorway near Dublin. It is managed by eFlow on behalf of Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII).

No barriers, only cameras

There are no physical toll booths on the M50. Instead, overhead cameras capture your vehicle registration number when you pass under the tolling gantry. The system automatically records the journey and expects payment by the driver.

Payment process

Deadline to pay

You must pay M50 toll before 8pm the next day. Failure to do so results in penalties being added to your toll.

Penalties explained

If you don’t pay on time, eFlow applies penalties:

  1. €3 late payment penalty added the day after deadline.
  2. €41 additional penalty if unpaid after 14 days.
  3. Up to €146 plus court fees for continued non-payment.

Tourists and rental cars

For rental vehicles, confirm with your provider whether they handle M50 toll payments. Some companies cover the toll automatically, while others leave the responsibility to the driver.
